Wedding photography in Friedrichshafen
By the lake the light is different, and that is not a figure of speech. Water throws back what comes from above and fills the shadows under eyes and chin – that makes portraits on the shore softer than in town. In exchange there is no shelter: on a clear July midday the promenade is merciless, and in wind every hairstyle is a fight. So we plan Lake Constance dates around the time of day, not around the place.
Friedrichshafen itself is more sober than the postcard villages on the lake, and we like that. The lakeside promenade is long and open, in good weather the view reaches the Swiss mountains, and the Zeppelin over the water is a subject you get nowhere else – when it flies, we wait a moment. For couples who want space rather than scenery, this is the right place in that direction.
Our photo spots
- Uferpromenade und Hafen – An open horizon, soft light off the water. Unsheltered at midday – better the last two hours before sunset.
- Schlosskirche am See – Two towers right by the water, good from a distance. Inside only by arrangement with the parish.
- Uferpark Richtung Manzell – Trees and meadow as a windbreak, when it gets too gusty on the promenade.
Frequent questions
What if it is stormy on the lake?
Then we move away from the open shore into the lakeside park or into sheltered courtyards. Wind on Lake Constance is not an exception but a planning factor – we look at the forecast in the morning and move the hour rather than the place.
Do you stay overnight?
For dates on Lake Constance, usually yes. The drive back takes almost two hours, and the last pictures of the evening are often the best – we do not want to leave those out because of the clock.
