Wedding photography in München

Munich is not our neighbourhood, and we do not pretend otherwise. We come here because couples we know from the region take us along, or because a family is spread between Swabia and the state capital. That is a different job from a wedding twenty minutes from home: we travel the evening before if the day starts early, and we plan with more slack, because in Munich every drive between two places takes longer than the map service says.

Photographically the city is rich and strict at the same time. The park at Nymphenburg and the English Garden are magnificent and public – with everything that comes with it: runners in the background, other wedding parties, and in places their own rules for commercial photography. The arcades at Odeonsplatz and the Isar meadows are our quieter counter-proposals. What always works in Munich is the early morning: at seven the city belongs to nobody for an hour.

Our photo spots

• Schlosspark Nymphenburg – Wide axes and water. Commercial photography has its own rules – settle it beforehand, do not argue about it on site.
• Odeonsplatz und Hofgarten – Arcades as the rain and midday plan, symmetry for calm pictures. Almost empty early in the morning.
• Isarauen – Gravel, water and trees instead of architecture – the counterweight when the city gets to be too much.
