Wedding photography in Ulm
Ulm is the town in our area where most can go wrong. Münsterplatz is wide and bright, and around midday the sun stands so that faces go dark under the eyes. That is why we rarely put couple pictures there, but into the fishermen's quarter instead: narrow lanes, timber framing, the Blau in several arms, and shadow that is soft rather than hard. Anyone who still wants the minster in frame gets it from the Herdbrücke or the Danube promenade – with distance, and without the tower cut off at the top.
The second subject in Ulm is the audience. The old centre is full on Saturday afternoons, and a wedding couple does not go unnoticed there. Some couples enjoy it, others go quiet. We raise it beforehand and plan accordingly: either early in the morning, when the lanes are empty, or on the edges by the Danube, where you can be alone together without leaving town.
Our photo spots
- Fischerviertel – Narrow lanes along the Blau, soft grazing light into the afternoon. Cobblestones – think about high heels in advance.
- Donaupromenade und Metzgerturm – Space and water, the minster in the background. Late in the evening, the best light in town.
- Münsterplatz – Large and imposing, but harsh in midday light and rarely empty. Better for group pictures early in the morning.
Frequent questions
Do you need a permit to photograph in Ulm?
For a couple with a photographer in public space, as a rule no. It is different with rigging, a drone or larger groups blocking a path – we clear that with the city beforehand, so nobody is arguing on the wedding day.
Ulm or Neu-Ulm – where should we photograph?
The Danube separates the two and the bridge takes four minutes on foot. We often use both: the old-town side for closeness and timber framing, the Neu-Ulm side for openness and the view back to the minster.
